Brightwork manager becomes Dementia Ambassador

With Scotland’s aging population, and more than 93,000 Scots suffering from some form of dementia, most people have some experience of caring for a loved one afflicted by the condition. This inspired Sean Magee, manager and trainer at multiple award-winning recruitment agency, Brightwork, to become a Dementia Ambassador and to promote the highest standard of excellence in dementia care in Scotland, both amongst Brightwork’s temporary care workers, and across the care sector. Earlier this month Glasgow hosted around 120 Dementia Ambassadors at the third national conference of the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) hosted event, including Mr Magee. Mr Magee said: “What I wasn’t prepared for was just how much I would be affected by the conference. I felt truly empowered to begin to make those small changes, to build up a network of learning, and to ensure that people living with dementia receive the support needed to be able to live a fully independent life.” Mr Magee will be joining a network of over 700 professionals who act as Dementia Ambassadors, and will be using his influence to support dementia sufferers, their families, and carers; by providing continuous learning frameworks, developing a knowledge base, and ensuring the highest standards of excellence. Mr Magee said: “I don’t really come from a social care background, and I was a little nervous when I attended the conference; but it was an absolute pleasure to meet people so passionate about helping, and so knowledgeable. “I’m really excited about the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of dementia sufferers, and to help with the standards of training and care across the social care sector.” Brightwork is well known for its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and Mr Magee’s taking on of this role is only the most recent in a long line of commitments to worthy causes from the Glasgow and Edinburgh-based firm. This year, for example, Brightwork renewed its commitment to give staff one paid day every year to donate their time and expertise to a charity of their choice as part of its Leap Day initiative.
