Attendance Allowance is a valuable and extremely helpful benefit that supports older people to live independently in their own homes. Currently Attendance Allowance is NOT means-tested and because of this there is the possibility that this might change in the future. As we all get older, many of us need a little extra help to look after ourselves, especially if we have long-term illness or disablity. And for this reason paying for care can be a worry. However, there are some benefits and entitlements available for our elderly to claim to help cover the cost of getting help at home. Attendance Allowance is one of the most useful benefits available to help older people to live independently at home, however some of our elderly aren't even aware that it even exists or they think that they are not eligible for Attendance Allowance - a simple application would answer that for you. You may be able to claim Attendance Allowance if your ability to keep safe or look after your own personal care is affected by physical or mental illness or disability. You don't need to have a carer or someone that is looking after you to claim Attendance Allowance - it is a benefit that is awarded based on the help you need. Claiming Attendance Allowance won't reduce your other income you receive - such as your pension, and the Attendance Allowance is also tax-free. Upon application and you are awarded it, you may also become entitled to other benefits, such as Pension Credit, Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction, or an increase in those benefits.
